Where this usually goes wrong
Refurbishment scopes vary enormously and the language does not. Two sellers can use the same phrase to describe a wash and a full teardown, and the difference surfaces at the first outage rather than at signature.
How we scope it
Every refurbishment we scope is written as a line-by-line specification: what is disassembled, what is inspected, what is replaced, what is repaired, what is tested, and to whose standard. The work is performed by the shop engaged for the platform. You see the specification before you sign, and you see the report after.
Performed by a named contractor
The specification, the shop selection and the acceptance criteria are performed by PowerGen. The teardown, repair and test work is performed by the refurbishment shop engaged for the platform, named in the transaction file.
What we require before we recommend a contractor
A promise is worth what the specification behind it is worth. These are the positions we will not sign without.
- Licensed or authorised on the specific platform, evidenced rather than asserted.
- Disassembly stated per module, never implied by a grade name like zero-hour.
- Replaced-versus-repaired called per component, with the decision rule written down.
- Acceptance criteria defined before work starts, and every test report released.
- A warranty position stated per scope item, not as a single blanket term.
- A documentation package assembled to survive a lender's diligence.
